Colston 4

I'm pleased the four protesters who were part of the group who toppled the statue in Bristol have been cleared of criminal damage.

Reading the comments under the news story in some places makes me roll my eyes. Bringing down a statue is not "erasing" history. Statues are put up to glorify and honour people. History should be the full story.

As David Olusoga said: “For 300 years Edward Colston was remembered as a philanthropist, his role in the slave trade and his many thousands of victims were airbrushed out of the story. The toppling of the statue and the passionate defence made in court by the Colston Four makes that deliberate policy of historical myopia now an impossibility.”
