Frostpunk

I've been enjoying playing Frostpunk very much so far.

Today I got through the initial scenario for the first time, which I felt good about. The reward screens for survival show how you got there, which is a bit chastening, as it reminds you of all the controversial decisions you took to get there. Was it worth it, it asks?

We'd all be dead else, I cry! I may have ordered the burning of poetry at one point...

We can't consent

The "rough sex" defence is to be removed, which pleases me immensely. About bloody time.

The death of Natalie Connolly was absolutely horrific and her callous killer got a ridiculously low sentence for what he did. And she was far from alone in being betrayed by not only her partner but the justice system. Website: We cant consent to this.

I imagine some of the Bdsm scene are worried about this, but tough shit really. It's spectacularly cowardly to not only have the sub take all the physical, sexual and emotional risk, but want to have no legal risk either. Not exactly the attribute you seek in a Dominant.

Squeak

I squished down the garden waste and a mouse leapt out! Quite surprised me and it.

It stopped and looked me in the eye, as if to protest the loss of its hiding place, before legging it. Fair enough.

“All too often women believe it is a sign of commitment, an expression of love, to endure unkindness or cruelty, to forgive and forget. In actuality, when we love rightly we know that the healthy, loving response to cruelty and abuse is putting ourselves out of harm's way.”
― Bell Hooks

Lockdown light lit

Just finished 'The October Man' by Ben Aaronovitch. I do enjoy the Rivers series, and this one was a nice introduction to the German counterparts of the Folly.

These are some of the books by authors people recommended to me when I made a lockdown plea for new authors. I really enjoyed the Clare Mackintosh and bought more of hers.

'Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine' was excellent.

I'm not sure I'd buy more Michael Robotham - although I enjoyed 'The Suspect', I found how the storyline was handled gratuitous in one part, and it was a bit sick-making, and makes me want to kick him in the shins.

In the bag

I started to hoover in the utility room and suddenly out of the corner of my eye saw something move in the guinea pig food. I squeaked non-courageously and immediately thought mouse or rat - but when I looked it was the white back of a guinea pig. Sponge had plummeted from the cage right into the guinea pig food bag! A lucky break for her, and us.

Catches to be attended forthwith.
